FAQs

Why do I need to link my credit or debit card?

JOON uses your bank transactions to automatically validate your wellness purchases. We never share your transactions with anyone but we securely store and log your approved transactions for tax purposes.

What does JOON do with the rest of my transaction history?

They are encrypted, anonymized and deleted after 60 days.

How do employees receive reimbursements?

Employees link a checking or savings account and JOON deposits their reimbursements there every month.

How do I know which categories are reimbursed by my employer and how do I know which purchases are approved in each category?

When you log into your employee dashboard you will see the categories listed at the bottom of your screen. Products and services that promote mental health fall under the MIND category. Products and services that promote physical wellness fall under the BODY category.

How does JOON handle security?

All of our data and meta data is encrypted under the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard, and each encryption key is itself encrypted with a regularly rotated set of master keys. Our services use the same hardened key management systems that Google uses to encrypt their data, including strict key access controls and auditing.

Does JOON store any of my banking information?

Nope, and we don't need to. JOON manages all banking information through industry leading third party services, Plaid and Dwolla. We do not keep any financial information on our servers. We use Plaid to verify accounts and validate transactions and Dwolla to initiate transfers.

Does JOON count towards an employee's taxable income?

Some companies assign the amount reimbursed on JOON as taxable income and others do not. Some companies pay these taxes on behalf of their employees, while others simply pass any tax responsibility to the employee. Your accountant will be the best person to consult here since rules vary by country, state, county, province, town, company, and employee -- only someone who understands tax code and knows your business intimately will be able to give you a definitive answer.

What are some examples of activities and brands that fall under the MIND and BODY categories?

  1. Activities: gyms, fitness studios, yoga, pilates, barre, bootcamp, cross fit, rowing, cycling, running, martial arts, HIIT, dance, rock climbing, massage, acupuncture, swimming, cryotherapy, meditation, marathons, intramurals and organized sports.
  2. Brands: Classpass, Fitbit, Peloton, Headspace, Equinox, Soul Cycle, 24 Hour Fitness, Orange Theory Fitness, Yogaworks, Massage Place, and many more.

What do I do if a wellness purchase doesn’t automatically get validated?

If you believe a purchase should have fallen under one of the approved categories, you can report it straight from your JOON dashboard.

What do I do if I bought a product or service that should be validated but wasn’t at an approved merchant?

Report the transaction from your dashboard and upload a receipt so we can validate the specific purchase within the transaction.
